POWER DOWN | LOOK UP

Over the past weekend I had the pleasure of being a Tourism Jasper media guest to the yearly Dark Sky Festival in Jasper, Alberta. This two weekend festival is all about the cosmos which fits perfectly for my love of outer space. Over the course of the two days we had the pleasure of meeting some amazing local business owners, tasting the delectable cuisine, and exploring the breathtaking landscape of the Canadian Rockies. Our accommodations were provided by The Crimson (http://www.mpljasper.com/hotels/the_crimson/), a well designed hotel with a warm and welcoming front desk staff. It was a great place to come back to after a full day of activities and exploring. Our first morning brought us to the Jasper Skytram (http://www.jasperskytram.com) where we were greeted with a delicious breakfast (I had the wild bore eggs benedict) and an even more incredible view. After breakfast I was treated to a cool planetarium (http://jasperplanetarium.com), where outer space was the only thing you had to think about. The next day started with a journey out to Pyramid Lake, an in town location that is almost as breathtaking as anywhere in the Rockies. We were able to head over the afternoon presentation of Bill Nye where we heard him speak about his upbringing and the importance of recognizing climate change. It was a sold out crowd and in normal Bill Nye fashion was filled with tons of laughs. Immediately after our show we were in a cab heading to the Jasper Fairmont Lodge (http://www.fairmont.com/jasper/) for an evening of good drink and classical music. Our ballroom was filled with beautiful decorations and people dressed in their finest. Our pre fixe menu was: Pumpkin Soup, AAA Braised Beef with Vegetables, and a piece of delicate chocolate cake, and of course red wine. After dinner we made our way outside to a lakeside stage where we were gifted blankets, hot chocolate, and the spectacular Vivaldi's Four Seasons performed by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
